Cayman Islands

About Cayman Islands

Beautiful coral reefs, crystal clear water, and fabulous beaches are just some of the reasons so many people travel to this group of islands in the Caribbean. There are three islands in total. Grand Cayman is the largest island and where most tourists travel. The other islands (Little Cayman and Cayman Brac) are referred to as the Sister Islands by the locals. They are also frequented by tourists looking for a slice of paradise in the Caribbean. Wherever of the Cayman Islands you decide to stay on, there is going to be plenty for you to enjoy.

Most people travel to the Cayman Islands for pleasure during the months of November to April because during the winter it is generally cool. The overall climate is considered Marine Tropical. The other months of the year are the rainy season. With this in mind, you should be able to pick the best time for you to travel here. You actually have a pretty large window for good weather in the area. You should note that during the rainy season, you may have to deal with hurricanes. As long as you plan your travel accordingly, you shouldn't run into any problems.

Things to Note about the Cayman Islands

  • Respect is important for the people who live year-round on the Cayman Islands. Because of this, you should be careful not to try to push the locals if you decide to visit their country. For the most part, you will find the people happy to have you around and spending money.
  • Crime is no more of a danger in the Cayman Islands as it is anywhere else on the planet, but you should still exercise caution when traveling here. As always, try to travel in a group and avoid being out too late after dark. Having a cellphone that can contact the authorities if needed is another good idea.
  • Over half of the country's income relies on the tourism industry. Because of this, the locals are generally pretty open and accepting to travelers from all over the world. If you are gay or lesbian, however, you may not want to be public about it when in the Caribbean.
  •  While alcohol is available on the Cayman Islands, you should be prepared to pay double (or more) than you would at an average American bar or restaurant. With so much natural beauty around, it is possible to enjoy your trip without too much alcohol.

Finding a place to lay your head in the Cayman Islands is not going to be a problem. There is a wide range of options available, depending on how much money you want to spend. There are quite a few nice and reasonably priced hotels throughout the three islands. There are also a few really swank places for you to stay if you have the extra money to spend. And speaking of spending, US currency is accepted virtually everywhere in the Cayman Islands, so there is no need to exchange for local currency once you arrive.

The Cayman Islands may not be for everyone - especially if you like the nightlife and drink a lot - but it still offers a great way to experience the Caribbean up-close and personal. If you want to escape to the Caribbean and are looking for somewhere other than the Bahamas, think about the Cayman Islands. It might not have been your first choice, but once you see what the small islands have to offer, you may decide that it's one of your most favorite places on the planet.
